    Notable Features:
This necklace was made in the vintage Retro style. Composed of 10k yellow gold, the necklace features a pendant adorned with many beautiful Madeira citrine. The use of such rare, eye-catching, colorful stones
in this necklace is an excellent tribute to the Hollywood Regency style, which rose to popularity during the Retro period. Eager to show off their wealth and style, Hollywood celebrities and socialites during this time would adorn themselves with glamorous jewelry, usually featuring large and beautiful stones. The necklace was made by R. Steinmetz & Sons in the style of Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Tiffany designs that had influenced the Hollywood Regency style, making the viewer think of the likes of Ava Gardner and Katharine Hepburn.
A total of twenty-six Madeira citrine stones adorns the pendant, each displaying the rich orange hue prized in this rare variety of citrine. A semi-translucent quality allows light to filter through the body of the stones and illuminate their color. The largest, center citrine showcases an oval cut, while the remaining citrine on the pendant and bale contain round cuts, all of which sparkle beautifully when they catch the light. The stones rest securely in yellow gold prong settings, the vibrancy of the gold a perfect complement to the warm orange of the citrine. In the center of the pendant, the largest Madeira citrine is also suspended, raised above the other stones, making the pendant impossible to miss in Hollywood Regency style.
The pendant was strung on a 10k yellow gold fancy link chain with a spring ring clasp, which can be repaired by your local jeweler in order for the piece to be worn. When worn, the necklace would sit below the collarbone with the pendant resting against the décolletage on most people.
    A beautiful
modern tribute to Hollywood Regency jewelry from the Retro period, this necklace would make a valuable addition to any jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to become a part of this necklace's history.
    Damage:
Age appropriate wear. The chain has broken near the clasp, and the links can be reconnected by your local jeweler in order for the necklace to be worn.

    The History
Retro jewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940s and 1950s. This was a period during which jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes stemming from World War II. These designs reflect an infusion of futuristic vision with elements inspired by preceding periods, encompassing a variety of gemstones, shapes, and materials. Materials used commonly in Retro jewelry are gold, gold alloys, and silver as the wartime put a restriction on the use of platinum. Designs can be masculine, geometric and modern, or softer, more feminine and floral.
The Hollywood Regency style came into fashion during the 1930s, ushered along by the Golden Age of Hollywood. This style was heralded by bright, contrasting colors and modernization of the opulence of Baroque styles, featuring a deliberately frivolous extravagance that screamed glitz and glamour. “Big girls need big diamonds” was taken to heart, and the gorgeous Hollywood stars decked themselves ap
propriately, with blindingly glittering jewels to showcase their lives of luxury.
Citrine is a variety of quartz that features a golden yellow hue. While yellow is the most common color, it can also be seen with a greenish-yellow, brownish-yellow, or orange tint. One famous variety of citrine is Madeira citrine, which is named for the Madeira islands off the coast of Portugal. Citrine takes on a deep orange or reddish tint when heat treated.
Madeira Citrine ranges from golden to golden-orange to reddish-brown to brown. During the Art Deco era, Madeira Citrine was extremely rare and highly sought after. This type of citrine gets its name from the Madeira wine made in this Portuguese island region, which is off the coast of Africa. It deeply resembles this beautiful wine's color.
