Description
This is an antique African Yoruba tribal people's money belt which consists of antique lost wax casted brass currency rings which are braided onto a leather thong. This Yoruba tribal currency piece was worn as a belt to show wealth and status and as a convenient way to carry their currency with them. Whole belts could be traded but it was more common to unlace one end of the belt to trade just a few rings for smaller transactions. This currency specimen measures 26.90 inches long measuring from one end of the coins to the other end of the coins. Also, measures 37 inches long from one end of the leather thong to the other end. Great tribally used antique condition with wear and slight patina. Perfect for adding to your African currency collection.
