I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare February 1962 "Playgoer" playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the JEROME WEIDMAN and HAROLD ROME musical comedy "I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE" at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The show would open March 22nd, 1962 at the Sam S. Shubert Theatre in New York City and run for 300 performances.) ..... The production marked the Broadway debut of nineteen year-old BARBRA STREISAND as "Miss Marmelstein" and also included Streisand's future husband ELLIOTT GOULD. Other Cast members included LILLIAN ROTH, JACK KRUSCHEN, HAROLD LANG, KEN LE ROY, MARILYN COOPER, BAMBI LINN and SHEREE NORTH ..... DETAILS: The 16 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors, but no cast photos. Includes a full page ad for the Pre-Broadway tryout of the musical flop "WE TAKE THE TOWN" starring ROBERT PRESTON. The musical opened February 17th, 1962 at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut and closed March 17th, 1962 at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, failing to arrive in New York ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a light vertical crease and minor edge wear, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian.
