    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare February 26th, 1973 playbill (with an original Ticket stub) from the Pre-Broadway tryout and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the JULE STYNE, BETTY COMDEN and ADOLPH GREEN musical comedy "LORELEI" at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. (Following an extensive tour, the production would open January 27th, 1974 at the Palace Theatre in New York City and run for 320 performances.) ..... The musical starred CAROL CHANNING (shown in the cover photo), reprising her role as "Lorelei Lee" in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and featured DODY GOODMAN, TAMARA LONG, PETER PALMER, LEE ROY REAMS, BRANDON MAGGART, BROOKS MORTON (replaced out-of-town by JACK FLETCHER), JEAN BRUNO, ROBERT "Bob" FITCH and JOHN MINEO (who would be replaced in Los Angeles by IAN TUCKER) ..... CREDITS: Music by JULE STYNE ("Bells Are Ringing", "Gypsy", "Do Re Mi", "Hallelujah, Baby!", "Fade Out, Fade In", "Funny Girl", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "Lorelei", "Say, Darling!", "Prettybelle", "Darling of the Day", "Hazel Flagg", "High Button Shoes", "Sugar", "Subways Are For Sleeping" and "Two on the Aisle"); Lyrics by BETTY COMDEN and ADOLPH GREEN ("Wonderful Town", "Bells are Ringing", "Do Re Mi", "Subways are for Sleeping", "Fade Out, Fade In", "Lorelei", "Hallelujah, Baby!", "On the Twentieth Century", "The Will Rogers Follies"); New Book by KENNY SOLMS and GAIL PARENT based upon the musical comedy "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" with book by ANITA LOOS and JOSEPH FIELDS; Sets designed by JOHN CONKLIN; Costumes designed by ALVIN COLT (Miss Channing's Costumes designed by BOB MACKIE and RAY AGHAYAN); Choreographed and Directed by JOE LAYTON; Produced by LEE GUBER and SHELLY GROSS ..... DETAILS: The 36 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors and members of the creative team as well as one additional photo of CAROL CHANNING (last scanned image). Includes a loose ticket stub from the February 27th, 1973 evening performance ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "A Girl Like I", "Lorelei" and "Paris" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a tiny tear at the bottom seam and a handwritten note on the back cover, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
