    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in to New York ....... This is a rare March 10th, 1965 "Stage" playbill from the out-of-town tryout of the FRANK LOESSER and SAM SPEWACK musical comedy flop "PLEASURES AND PALACES" at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. (The production opened March 11th, 1965 in Detroit and closed there April 10th, 1965 cancelling both the Boston tryout and the scheduled May 10th, 1965 opening at New York's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.) ..... The musical starred JACK CASSIDY (who replaced ALFRED MARKS towards the end of the Detroit run), PHYLLIS NEWMAN, HY HAZELL and JOHN McMARTIN and featured LEON JANNEY, MORT MARSHALL, ERIC BROTHERSON, SAMMY SMITH, WOODY ROMOFF, JOHN ANANIA, BARBARA SHARMA and MICHAEL QUINN ..... CREDITS: Music by FRANK LOESSER ("Where's Charley?", "Guys and Dolls", "The Most Happy Fella", "Greenwillow", "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying"); Book by FRANK LOESSER and SAM SPEWACK based on a play by SAM SPEWACK; Sets designed by ROBERT RANDOLPH; Costumes designed by FREDDY WITTOP; Directed and Choreographed by BOB FOSSE; Produced by ALLEN B. WHITEHEAD in association with FRANK PRODUCTIONS, INC. ..... DETAILS: The 32 page playbill measures 8" X 8" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios and individual photos of each of the leading actors ..... BONUS: Includes a rare replacement insert for JACK CASSIDY (third scanned image), who replaced ALFRED MARKS late in the Detroit run .....
