This is a rare February 3rd, 1955 program from the three-night, return engagement of the GEORGE GERSHWIN, IRA GERSHWIN and DU BOSE HEYWARD American Folk Opera "PORGY AND BESS" at the Gran Teatro Del Liceo in Barcelona, Spain. (The first European tour began October 9th, 1952 at London's Stoll Theatre and after five months of performances throughout Europe, the production returned to New York's Ziegfeld Theatre on March 10th, 1953 for 305 performances. The production then played a number of American cities followed in the fall of 1954 with an ambitious tour of South America, the Middle East and a second trip to Europe.) ..... The cast of the four performance Barcelona engagement included IRENE WILLIAMS, GLORIA DAVY and FREDYE MARSHALL alternating as "Bess", LeVERN HUTCHERSON and LESLIE SCOTT alternating as "Porgy" and LORENZO FULLER and JOSEPH ATTLES alternating as "Sportin' Life" and in a supporting role as "Ruby" was MAYA ANGELOU (shown in the last scanned image).
