This is a rare March 9th, 1960 playbill from the four-night, Pre-Broadway engagement of the GORE VIDAL play "THE BEST MAN" at the Playhouse Theatre in Wilmington, Delaware. (The production would open March 31st, 1960at the Morosco Theatre in New York City
and run for 520 performances.) ..... The play starred MELVYN DOUGLAS (Tony Award for "Best Actor in a Play"), LEE TRACY and FRANK LOVEJOY and featured GORE VIDAL as the Announcer's Voice (a role that was eliminated out-of-town), LEORA DANA, KATHLEEN MAGUIRE, RUTH McDEVITT, KARL WEBER and JOSEPH SULLIVAN ..... CREDITS: Book by GORE VIDAL; Sets designed by JO MIELZINER; Costumes designed by THEONI V. ALDREDGE; Directed by JOSEPH ANTHONY; Produced by THE PLAYWRIGHTS' COMPANY ..... CONDITION: With the exception of minor soiling to the covers and a light fold across the middle, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian.
