This is a rare playbill from the Pre-Broadway workshop performances and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the CHARLES STROUSE and LEE ADAMS musical flop "A BROADWAY MUSICAL" at the Theatre of the Riverside Church in New York City. (The tryout performances were held from October 10th to November 19th, 1978. The production would open December 21st, 1978 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York City and close the same night after only one performance.) ..... The cast of the "Musical about a Broadway Musical" included HELEN GALLAGHER, JULIUS LA ROSA, GWYDA DONHOWE, RON FERRELL, ALAN WEEKS, LARRY MARSHALL, LARRY RILEY, JULIA LEMA, ANNE FRANCINE, DAN STRAYHORN, LORETTA DEVINE, JACKEE HARRY and DOM GUASTAFERRO ..... Side Note: Actress GWYDA DONHOWE, wife of NORMAN KEAN, one of the show's two producers was stabbed to death in January 1988 by her husband in their Manhattan apartment. Kean then leaped to his death from the roof of the 15 story building. Ironically, Gwyda played the wife of a Broadway producer in "A Broadway Musical" ..... CREDITS: Book by WILLIAM F. CONDITION: With the exception of minor creasing and light soiling, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian.
