This is a rare British promo 33 1/3 r.p.m. recording of the legendary JUDY GARLAND singing four songs incorrectly identified as being from the
LIONEL BART musical "BLITZ!" which opened
May 8th, 1962
at the Adelphi Theatre in London
and ran for 568 performances. The songs are actually from the score of LIONEL BART's 1964 musical "MAGGIE MAY" which opened September 22nd, 1964
at London's Adelphi Theatre
and ran for 501 performances ..... JUDY GARLAND was a fan of composer Lionel Bart ("Oliver!), and while in London in 1964 she agreed to record these four songs from his upcoming musical "Maggie May". This particular release is labeled "Audition Record Not For Sale." These were Judy Garland's last studio recordings for records, although she would pre-record some material for later TV appearances. These songs were officially released in the United Kingdom in 1964
on the Capitol / EMI 7" inch, 45 rpm extended play single, "Judy Garland Sings Lionel Bart's 'Maggie May'". These songs were never officially released in the United States until the 2002 compilation 2-CD set, "Classic Judy Garland - The Capitol Years: 1955 - 1965", however the version of "There's Only One Union" on the CD is different than the 1964 singles release ..... This British import includes four tracks with a total playing time of 11:22. The four titles are "There's Only One Union" (2:17); "The Land of Promises" (3:41); "Maggie, Maggie May" (2:18) and "It's Yourself" (3:06). The record is housed in the original paper sleeve with text on one side only ..... CONDITION: The vinyl appears to be un-played with just a few light marks. The outer sleeve has a sticker in the top left corner and shows slight edge discoloration and minor creasing. This rare recording will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical t
