    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare February 6th, 1947 program (playbill) from the three-night, Pre-Broadway tryout and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the ALAN JAY LERNER and FREDERICK LOEWE musical "BRIGADOON" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production would open March 13th, 1947 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City and run for 581 performances.) ..... The musical starred DAVID BROOKS, MARION BELL, PAMELA BRITTON, LEE SULLIVAN, GEORGE KEANE and WILLIAM HANSEN and featured ELLIOTT SULLIVAN, JAMES MITCHELL, MARGARET HUNTER, BUNTY KELLEY, WALTER SCHEFF, JEFF WARREN, EDWARD CULLEN, HAYES GORDON, VIRGINIA BOSLER, LIDIJA FRANKLIN, ROLAND GUERARD, GEORGE DRAKE, WENDELL PHILLIPS (replaced out-of-town by JOHN PAUL), FRANCES CHARLES, JAMES MacFADDEN, ARTHUR HORN and DELBERT ANDERSON ..... CREDITS: Music by FREDERICK LOEWE; Book and Lyrics by ALAN JAY LERNER (Lerner and Loewe collaborated on "Brigadoon", "Paint Your Wagon", "My Fair Lady", "Camelot" and "Gigi" among others); Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by DAVID FFOLKES; Choreographed by AGNES de MILLE; Orchestra Conducted by FRANZ ALLERS; Directed by ROBERT LEWIS; Produced by CHERYL CRAWFORD ..... DETAILS: The four page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches, is printed on a brown newsprint stock and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and an advertisement for New Haven's Chamberlain's Furniture Store, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a tear in the bottom edge, a tiny tear at the seam and creasing at the seam, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
