    Description

This is a rare souvenir program from the
Original Broadway production of the BURT SHEVELOVE, LARRY GELBART and STEPHEN SONDHEIM musical comedy "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM" at the Alvin Theatre in New York City. (The production opened May 8th, 1962 at the Alvin Theatre, moved to the Mark Hellinger Theatre on March 9th, 1964, then settled into the Majestic Theatre on May 11th, 1964 where the show closed August 29th, 1964 after 964 performances.) ..... The musical starred DICK SHAWN (who took over the role of "Pseudolus" on February 10th, 1964) and JACK GILFORD as "Hysterium" and featured DANNY DAYTON, RUTH KOBART, HORACE COOPER, HARRY DAVID SNOW, PRESHY MARKER, RONALD HOLGATE, EDDIE PHILLIPS, TED FORLOW, KELLY BROWN and FRANK McHUGH ..... Side Note: "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM" was honored with six 1963 Tony Awards including "Best Musical". In one of the most glaring omissions in Tony Awards history, STEPHEN SONDHEIM failed to receive a nomination in the category of "Best Composer and Lyricist" ..... CREDITS: Book by BURT SHEVELOVE and LARRY GELBART based on the plays of Plautus; Music and Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM (the first Broadway production for which he contributed both music and lyrics); Sets and Costumes designed by TONY WALTON; Choreographed by JACK COLE; Directed by GEORGE ABBOTT; Produced by HAROLD PRINCE
..... PLEASE NOTE: The scanned pages have been cropped due to the limitations of my scanner. The margins are slightly wider than shown .....
