    Description

    This
    rare, rare circa 1870
antique treadle sewing machine was manufactured by
The American Button Hole Overseaming and Sewing Machine Company
of Philadelphia, Pa. The condition of this approximately
    140 year
old machine is good. It appears that, at some time in its life, the wood table and bonnet were refinished. I noticed some wood discoloration in the right hand end of the table and bonnet. There is also an inch long separation in the table top on the right hand end and the front bonnet latch is missing. At some time, wood reinforcements were  added to the inside of the bonnet and wood filler was applied to two opposite outside corners. The sewing machine mechanism seems to work smoothly, however; the drive belt is missing. The painted finish on all the metal parts appears to be original but as can be expected, has faded with time.
This piece of original American history will make a wonderful addition to anyone's collection and awaits the hands of a knowledgeable collector of rare sewing machines, restorer or just a lover of post civil war life in America.
The sewing machine is being sold in an as is/where is condition. Please feel free to ask any questions or request additional photographs before you buy. I accept PayPal.
