    Description

This is a rare December 29th, 1962 issue of "CUE" magazine, the complete entertainment guide for New York City. This issue featured the legendary ZERO MOSTEL (shown in the cover photo) who was being honored by "Cue" as the Entertainer of the Year. Mostel was currently the toast of Broadway, starring in the Original Broadway production of the BURT SHEVELOVE, LARRY GELBART and STEPHEN SONDHEIM musical comedy "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM" at the Alvin Theatre in New York City. (The production opened May 8th, 1962 and ran for 966 performances.) ..... The musical starred the Tony Award winning ZERO MOSTEL and featured JACK GILFORD, DAVID BURNS, RUTH KOBART, BRIAN DAVIES, PRESHY MARKER, RONALD HOLGATE, EDDIE PHILLIPS, GEORGE REEDER, DAVID EVANS, JOHN CARRADINE and RAYMOND WALBURN ..... Side Note: "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM" would win six 1963 Tony Awards including "Best Musical". In one of the most glaring omissions in Tony Awards history, STEPHEN SONDHEIM was not even nominated in the category of "Best Composer and Lyricist" ..... CREDITS: Book by BURT SHEVELOVE and LARRY GELBART based on the plays of Plautus; Music and Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM (the first Broadway production in which he contributed both music and lyrics); Sets and Costumes designed by TONY WALTON; Choreographed by JACK COLE; Directed by GEORGE ABBOTT; Produced by HAROLD PRINCE ..... DETAILS: The oversized 58 page magazine measures 8 1/4" X 11 1/4" inches and includes the wonderful cover photo of ZERO MOSTEL as well as one additional photo in a related article (second scanned image). Also includes reviews of Broadway and Off-Broadway plays, TV and Radio programs, Sports, Art Shows, Music and other goings-on in New York .....
